TA Application (Non-SEE Applicant)

This form is for non-SEE graduate student applicants. If you are a SEE graduate student, please use the form of "SEE TA Applications (SEE Student Applicants) https://coursys.sfu.ca/forms/see-ta-applications-see-graduate-students/ to apply. Please be advised that SEE graduate students have priority for all TA assignments within SEE, and non-SEE applicants will be appointed only if no qualified SEE graduate students are available.

SEE TA applications for Fall 2024 open on Monday, June 24 and close on Monday, July 8, 2024. See postings at https://www.sfu.ca/human-resources/prospective-employees/tssu-postings/applied-sciences-postings/see-postings.html.

All applicants are advised to complete a ‘self-assessment qualification form’ (available for download on the TA Requirement page: https://www.sfu.ca/see/current-students/postings/teaching-assistants.html) and attach it to your application.

1. Graduate students are encouraged to discuss their TA interest with their Senior Supervisor before applying and before accepting a position.

2. You are expected to be available for the entire term of the contract and able to perform all required duties, including attendance at labs/tutorials and invigilation of midterm and final exams if required, for any position you accept. You must discuss any planned absences in advance with your course instructor(s) who will determine if an exception is possible.

3. As per the TSSU collective agreement, TA assignments are expressed in Base Units (BUs) and the number of hours of work required for each BU is expected to approach but not exceed forty-two (42), less 1.1 hours of which are set aside for statutory holiday compensation.

SFU graduate applicants have to enter the first name and last name of their Senior Supervisor.
SFU applicants must list the names and values of merit-based scholarships received in the Fall 2024 semester.

If you are not a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, you MUST upload a copy of your Study/Work Permit in PDF format. The permit must be valid for the entire semester for which you are applying. Without a valid permit, you will not be eligible for SEE TA appointments.

1 BU = 42 hours. Compare your own academic schedule and other commitments with the SEE course(s) you are interested in and add the maximum number of BUs you wish to receive.

TAs must have completed the SFU EHS Safety Essentials training. You can register for training at https://www.sfu.ca/srs/work-research-safety/training.html. Without a valid certificate, you will not be eligible for SEE TA appointments.
