MSE Grad Deferral Request [Mechatronics]

Deferral Request

This form is for MSE MASc & PhD students. MEng students, please contact msesms@sfu.ca for deferral requests.

Deferral Steps for MASc & PhD students: 

  1. Get in touch with your supervisor. Please keep your supervisor updated regarding your availability to start your studies. You can cc the MSE admin office in your email. Deferrals depend on the availability of RAship funding, which may be limited by the time frame and/or budget of your supervisor's project. Funding may need to be adjusted for MASc students. Please get in touch with your supervisor to confirm the funding details.
  2. Pay your admission deposit: Your admission offer must be accepted and the admission deposit paid before your deferral request can be processed by Faculty of Graduate Studies. If you have already paid your deposit, please go to the next step.
  3. Drop all courses: If you are enrolled in any courses, please drop them on goSFU to avoid being charged tuition.
  4. Submit this form by the first day of classes of your current intake term (for the Fall 2026 term this is Wednesday September 9th 2026). Please refer to the Dates + Deadlines page for all academic dates.

 

Timeline: Admission may be deferred up to 1 year (3 terms) as per GGR 1.3.1. International students - it is recommended to defer your admission one term at a time as you wait for your visa.

Please note - admission letter processing for deferral requests may take 3-6 weeks. Students are encouraged to submit their requests early.
