Summer 2019 - Weekend Club Positions

Position: Weekend Club Coordinator/Instructor Deadline: February 24th - Midnight

About Science AL!VE Science AL!VE is a not-for-profit, science education program based at Simon Fraser University. Our mandate is to encourage, inspire and expose youth of all backgrounds to the many fields of science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on and interactive activities. Science AL!VE reaches over 15,000 youth annually across all our programs and is a proud member of Actua; a national affiliation linking over 35 programs across Canada.

About the Position -Teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) in our Weekend Programs -All programs occur on Saturdays and are 3 hours in length -Coordinators work approx. 10 hours bi-weekly ($14.25/hour) and are responsible for: -Curriculum development and completion of formal write ups -Budget completion -Communication with Directors, Instructors, participants and their families -Instruction of the club -Instructors work approx. 6 hours bi-weekly ($14.25/hour) and are responsible for: -Learning curriculum development by coordinator -Instruction of the club -Coordination of weekly newsletter

Mandatory Qualifications (required or willing to obtain prior to start date) -Undergraduate student preferred -Valid first aid certification at a minimum level of Emergency First Aid (with CPR C and AED) -NOTE: Standard First Aid is recommended if you plan to apply for full-time positions with Science AL!VE in the future (ex. Summer camp instructor) -Complete a Criminal Record Check for the vulnerable sector

Other Qualifications -Demonstrates enthusiasm for STEM and education -Experience working with students -Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently -Creative and innovative -Public speaking and presentation skills -Ability to take initiative -Organizational skills -Class 5 license and access to a vehicle is an asset

Note that all programs occur on Saturdays and are bi-weekly unless otherwise stated. We may not run all the programs listed and final programs will depend on student enrollment and staff availability.
Also indicate whether you have a preference for age of students (grades K-7) and if you would like to teach multiple programs (eg. Codemakers 101 and Lab Rats as they run on alternating weekends)
