Summer 2019 -After School Positions

Position: After School Instructor Deadline: February 24th - Midnight

About Science AL!VE Science AL!VE is a not-for-profit, science education program based at Simon Fraser University. Our mandate is to encourage, inspire and expose youth of all backgrounds to the many fields of science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on and interactive activities. Science AL!VE reaches over 15,000 youth annually across all our programs and is a proud member of Actua; a national affiliation linking over 35 programs across Canada.

About the Position -Teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) at an elementary school in the Lower Mainland, potentially with a co-instructor! -Programs run 1-2 hours a week (start times and program dates vary by school) -Programs typically run 6-10 weeks from late March/early April until June -Multiple positions available ranging from 4-6 hours weekly at $14.25/hour -Positions typically available for schools in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Surrey and occasionally Vancouver or Port Moody -Instructors are paid for prep, travel, and teaching time -Instructors teach curriculum created by the After School Coordinator

Mandatory Qualifications (required or willing to obtain prior to start date) -Undergraduate student preferred -Valid first aid certification at a minimum level of Emergency First Aid (with CPR-C and AED) -NOTE: Standard First Aid is recommended if you plan to apply for full-time positions with Science AL!VE in the future. (ex. Summer camp instructor) -Complete/intend to complete a Criminal Record Check for the vulnerable sector

Other Qualifications -Demonstrates enthusiasm for STEM and education -Experience working with students -Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently -Public speaking and presentation skills -Ability to take initiative -Organizational skills -Class 5 license and access to a vehicle is an asset

Either is fine, we use this to help with scheduling to have those driving teach at schools that are less transit accessible.
