STEM Speaker Series Volunteer Application

SFU Applied Sciences Outreach (with Science AL!VE) strives to engage youth in hands-on science, technology, engineering, art & design, and mathematics (STEAM) based programs to build measurable skills and improve self-confidence. Aligned with the SFU Faculty of Applied Sciences’ mandate, we aim to dispel stereotypes in the field of science and engineering and work towards achieving diversity and inclusion. We work to empower those traditionally underrepresented groups in STEAM by developing barrier-free programs for girls, at-risk youth, and Indigenous communities.

SFU Applied Sciences Outreach (with Science AL!VE) acknowledges the unceded Traditional Coast Salish Lands including the Tsleil-Waututh (səlil̓ w̓ətaʔɬ), Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛə̓ m), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəyə̓ m) Nations.

We are currently recruiting high school volunteers to facilitate and moderate the STEM Speaker Series. This is a remote opportunity since the STEM Speaker Series is a series of online presentations by individuals with STEM expertise and experiences. Please review information about this role before applying. Please complete this application by the end of Monday, April 15 at 11:59 pm.

The STEM Speaker Series provides high school students with the opportunity to meet and interact with university students, faculty members, and/or working professionals in STEM fields. During this event, our guest speakers will present and discuss their research and/or the work they do in their profession. They will also talk about their career path and what made them pursue the field they are in. Finally, there will be a Q&A session for students to ask questions and interact with our guest speakers.
