Internal Class Discussion Notes

While most of our course content is public on GitHub (so you can reference in the future, so you or I can share with colleagues, etc.), I'll keep our notes (pictures of our whiteboard, my attempts to summarize key themes) about in-class discussions internal. For now, I'll put everything here to avoid more page proliferation.

Week 2

Jan 16 Whiteboard

Nick's notes on topics that came up + quick "if you want to see a bit more" links:

Personalized content moderation on social media

Siri lawsuit

Content moderation and free speech

AI and bias from the past

Surveillance capitalism

AI recruitment and fairness

Environmental impacts

AI and price fixing

On this point, I may have raised some confusion and conflated a few different topics -- collusion via model weights, price discrimination via model weights (more relevant to e.g. insurance than rent), and auction-style pricing vs. market-style pricing. We can come back to this if it's of interest (it certainly is to me!)
