  • 2017-11-21 Announcements given today in class: (1) You should have received an email regarding a course evaluation; please fill it out if you haven't already. (2) Next Tue, Nov 28 will be a guest lecture on machine learning in bioinformatics by Leonid Chindelevitch. (3) The final exam is Fri Dec 15 in AQ 3182 at 3:30pm. The final will cover all the material in the course, with increased weight on the material that came after the midterm. There will be a make-up final exam on Tue Dec 12 at noon in B9201. You must have an “exam hardship” to take the make-up final and arrange with me in advance. (4) Remaining instructor office hours: Nov 21 2:30pm; Nov 30 3:30pm; Dec 6 2pm; Dec 13 11am.
  • 2017-11-07 The final exam will be in AQ 3182.
  • 2017-11-05 Just a reminder that the midterm will be this Tuesday, 2017-11-07 in class. The midterm will be 50 minutes, on paper. No electronic media allowed (computers, phones, calculators). Any physical media is allowed (textbook, written notes, web page printouts). Exception: questions may be drawn from the textbook, so no textbook answer keys allowed. (Solutions written by you are okay; solutions downloaded from the web or written by others are not allowed.) In addition, I will be holding office hours tomorrow, Monday Nov 6, from 2-3pm in my office.
  • 2017-10-31 On Thursday, I will review some topics for the midterm. If there are any topics that you would like to see reviewed, please post to the thread on the discussion forum. In addition, I will move my office hours next week to Monday Nov 6 2:00-3:00pm.
  • 2017-10-18 Assignment 2 has been released. Note that the due date was changed to Tuesday October 31 2017.
  • 2017-10-17 Grades for Assignment 1 have been released.

  • 2017-09-25: There was a mistake in Assignment 1 regarding the scramble() function in the Lights Out problem. The incorrect text was "Scramble the puzzle by calling perform move() on each location". The correct text is: "Scramble the puzzle by, on each cell, randomly with 50% probability, calling perform move() ." The assignment pdf has been updated. Apologies for the error.
  • 2017-09-20: Late homework policy: You get four "late days". Turning in an assignment late costs one late day per day after the due date (rounded up). If you run out of late days, late submission costs 10% of the assignment grade per day. We will post solutions three days after the due date. No submissions will be accepted after that.

Exams

  • Midterm: Will be held Tuesday 2017-11-07 in class. You must be able to attend the midterm.
  • Final exam: Friday 2017-12-15, 3:30-6:30pm, in AQ 3182. You must be able to attend the final exam.
